Hump Day...

So we are halfway through the week, for some Wednesday is the best day of the week, for other it's just another day on the calendar. I look at Wednesday a couple ways, for me personally it's the 2nd of my long days for the week, on Tuesday's and Wednesdays I work from 8am-midnight doing a couple jobs, so it's a sign that the end is near and the weekend is close. Wednesday is also the day of the week where you can see the weekend coming close, but you have to make sure you stick to that diet and finish out the week strong, it may be the hardest day for eating.

Yesterday I tried a couple things differently, eating chicken and eggs for breakfast (along with a venti iced coffee sweetened with cream from Starbucks), chicken and a sweet potato for lunch, and a Green Goddess salad with chicken for dinner from Panera. I'm starting to track what I am eating and putting into my body using the MyFitnessPal app, which is new for me, it's something I had tried before but never really got into the swing of tracking my calories because I didn't really care most of the time what I put in my body. Since I actually care now and have some people to help me stay accountable I truly believe that this is going to be a game changer for me trying to lose weight in the long run. I just want to be healthy, and I hope if you are reading this right now, you want the same thing.

Today is a new day, continue to stick with that diet and watch what you put into your body. It will have an affect on how things go down the road. The more you do it the easier it will get, sometimes you have to resist temptation to make the ultimate goal pay off. It's a day by day journey but in the end it will be worth it, the results will pay off.

The Weekend Update

The weekend is always hard when it comes to working out or maintaining your diet. For most people, me included, I find that I just want to relax and watch Netflix and pig out on bad food after being eating well all week. Nothing is worse than working hard all week long, just to throw it all away and pig out two days of the week. I didn't necessarily follow my diet strictly this weekend, but unlike other weekends, I didn't completely forget that diet is still important during the weekends.

Another big thing that I worked on this weekend that even if you just walk around the block or something, at least try to be active Saturday or Sunday. Ideally you want to workout both Saturday and Sunday, but if we are being honest with ourselves the last thing we want to do on the weekend is workout both days. I didn't workout Saturday, but I more than made up for it on Sunday with a 60 minute workout in 90+ degree weather. It was a good way to unwind and just plug in some music and keep moving. You don't have to move fast, find your pace and just keep moving throughout the entire 60 minutes. I have always been an advocate for working on weaknesses in workouts, yesterday I did that workout I posted last week those 60 minutes of running and burpees. Two movements that I absolutely hate, but also two movements I need to do more not only to build up my cardio and stamina but also to lose weight. I got through it and kept moving, that was my goal.

A shorter post for today, but I truly believe it is important to understand what you do on the weekends (good or bad) will have an affect on the rest of the week. Set yourself up for success before the week even starts. Be active at least one day of the weekend, work up a sweat and just move around and make yourself workout no matter how hard or how HOT it may be outside. Watch what you are putting in your body, it is okay to cheat on the weekend as long as you have been strict all week, and you don't completely lose that momentum on the weekend. Continue to make goals for yourself throughout the week, month, year, etc. The more you can track, the easier it will be to work to that goal every single day. Believe in yourself and find someone that will hold you to that anytime you may struggle...

National Doughnut Day

So I feel bad, I didn't do that 60 minute workout I said I was going to do yesterday, but I did a long one, and it was close to a 60 minute workout, and included a lot of burpees, Kettle Bell Snatches and Biking, so all in all I'm not upset.

I'm sure you noticed on Social Media of all sorts that it's National Doughnut Day, which in my opinion is the 2nd worst day of the year (for those on a diet) only to National Ice Cream Day. The only way this beats that, is that every doughnut shop in the world gives out a free doughnut, so you could theoretically eat tons and tons of doughnuts for the price of gas money if you really wanted to try that out. If you did that, shoot me a message ( and I'll send you a special gift.

I love doughnuts, I crave doughnuts everyday of my life. While I write this post, I am probably thinking thoughts of doughnuts, but I know I cannot give in to the temptation. It's a pastry that has been around arguably since the 19th century and has graced kitchens, restaurants, and stores for many of years. With hundreds of combinations: Sprinkles with icing, plain, glazed, maple bacon, chocolate, etc. (sorry I'm not helping this issue, but there is a point I promise) The point, Doughnuts are one of the most amazing snacks EVER.

So this raises the question, if you are on a diet and watching what you are putting into your body, what happens when you really want a doughnut? This is what I do, I sit down and ask myself is the 30 seconds it takes for me to eat the doughnut going to be worth the satisfaction? Most of the time it's no and I move on and try to figure out what to eat in place of the doughnut. That is my challenge, sit down and ask yourself that, it won't kill you every once in a while to have a doughnut, but as everyone knows it's hard to just have one. Believe it or not, eating fruit is just as good and 100x healthier than a doughnut.

What I'm trying to say here, is you don't NEED a doughnut, you WANT a doughnut. Save it for your "cheat period" (which I will address on a later blog down the road), or buy a doughnut and give it to someone who wants it but doesn't care about what they put in their body at that moment.

Hop aboard the Struggle Bus

I have heard from so many people that sleep is "overrated" but I have heard from just as many people that sleep is essential. So which is it, do I need sleep or do I not need sleep? The answer, I need sleep. Yes while I am only 26 years old and I have plenty of years left to be tired, I am absolutely exhausted. I never knew working 8am-midnight a few times a week would be as taxing as it is, until I actually did it. Not only is sleep important, but somehow I am going to try and muster some energy to get in a workout once I get off work. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how it goes, my initial thought is to do the following...

It sounds bad, but after this week, I need something that is bad and that will tire me out enough that I only have energy to take a shower and fall asleep directly after finishing. I won't be using a weight vest, but I would love to do this workout again in 6 months and be able to do it with a weight vest. That's the goal. So that is the plan for the evening, which is why I'm writing this blog post now, because the energy probably won't be there tonight.

It's going to be a long day, but I'm going to get through it, I work 8am-midnight one more time this week (tomorrow). So tonight is important for me to get to bed early and make sure I get quality sleep. I have been sleeping good (quality wise) but the Amount of sleep has been really bad. So thats the plan tonight. Alright, I'll probably check back in tomorrow night, so stay tuned and stay motivated.

Reboot the Journey

About 4 years ago I set out on a mission to lose weight. I was obese, out of shape and at the time I thought I was comfortable in my own body. 4 years have come and gone and most of that weight has stayed off but some has come back, and thats why I need to write this post. I need to be held accountable when it comes to trying to lose more weight. I not only want this for myself, but I want this for my friends, my family, my loved ones, the people that mean more to me than anything in the world. I need to be around to make sure I can do and be the person I need to be for them. That's why I need this.

Now I don't know how often I'm going to post, maybe every week, maybe a couple times a month. But whenever I am thinking of things this is going to be where I write out some thoughts. I apologize if my grammar isn't up to par with the top publications on the internet, but one thing I will do, I won't BS you. I won't try to be politically correct, I know I need to lose weight, and I'm going to work my way through this with whoever wants to jump on board.

So, I'm Robbie, a normal guy who works a couple jobs, most weeks I work anywhere from 52hours to 64 hours... I emcee CrossFit Events and I have a podcast "The Big Red Express" (cheap plug). A few weeks ago I set out to loose weight, I got all the way down under 220lbs a few years (Started at 290lbs) and I would love to get back to that point. I'm just about 250lbs at the moment, so I've got some work to do but hey I'm going to put in the work. The hard thing is how to fit an hour workout in 3-5 times a week when you average 5 hours of sleep a night and you work from 8am-midnight a few times every week you are working. I'm still trying to figure that out, so hopefully me documenting what I do on a constant basis will help me look back and see where I'm at, and where I will ultimately be.
