A Mile a Day - Day 28

Day 28

Something that I've learned over the past 28 days is that no matter how much you want every single run to be perfect. You want it to feel like the best run you've ever had, but the fact is not ever run is going to be a good one. Today I woke up a little later than normal, I figured I would sleep in since I haven't gotten too much sleep over the past week and wake up and just go for a run. I woke up and started my run and from the beginning I could tell it was going to be a rough one, but I've also learned that no matter how hard the run may be to get through, once you get through it, you feel a lot better. The past 28 days haven't been the easiest but they have been in a row, and this is more running I've done in a month in probably over 4 years. I'm thankful that I'm healthy enough to be able to wake up each and every morning and do the same thing.

What did I listen to? Pentatonix Radio switched to Thunderstruck Radio halfway

Verse of the Day: Matthew 28:18-20, "Then Jesus came near and said to them, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, the the end of the age.'"

In a few days, I'll start adding .25 miles every 15 days until I am comfortable with a mileage I can run everyday. Thanks for checking in once again today and we'll talk to you tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 27

Day 27

To say today's run was a struggle would be the biggest understatement of the year. I didn't get much sleep last night which made today's run that much more difficult. I will say that I have ben enjoying running and getting my day started with a run even though it's only been a mile throughout the past 27 days. That is why I'm going to change things up after my month is completed. I know I said this announcement was going to come a little later, but the cats out of the bag. Starting on Day 31, I am going to be increasing my distance by .25 miles every 15 days. So every month I'm going to be running a half mile extra. I did a lot of thinking on what distance I should go to next, and even if I should continue trying to run everyday for the foreseeable future and that answer is YES! I am going to continue to run every single day no matter what it takes. As I get longer in distance, yes my body probably isn't going to be as "excited" to run and as ready to run as the past month has been, but my goal is to continue to up the distance until I feel I've reached a distance I can handle each day. I'm excited to keep going with running everyday, it feels like it is paying off and I feel great!

What did I listen to today? Jock Jams Radio on Pandora

Verse of the Day: Matthew 27:50-53, "Jesus shouted again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary was split in two from top to bottom; the earth quaked and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened and many bodies of the saints who has done to their rest were raised. And they came out of the tombs after His resurrection, entered the holy city, and appeared to many."

I'm really excited to continue tracking my journey each day and I couldn't be more thankful to all of you who have joined with me! Thank you so much and here is to many more days of running many more mile! Cheers!

A Mile a Day - Day 26

Day 26

What a past couple of runs it has been. This morning was probably one of the hardest runs to actually get through for the reason being it was raining and storming outside. I woke up about 6am and got out and ran about the same route as I did yesterday morning, I tried my best not to wake up everyone in the house as I got going, so I got outside and started running, and I would have to say this was the second time in the past 3 days that I didn't listen to any music. Since it was raining outside, I didn't feel like taking my phone out knowing that it was going to get wet, so I just decided to take the silence and go finish my mile before the rain got even worse. At the beginning of this challenge, I knew there would be a day I would wake up and it would be raining and I would have to go get my run in anyway, and to be completely honest I was dreading that day. But once it actually came, it wasn't too bad, it was a cool start and a very humid finish but all in all, I got it done! 4 more days left until I switch things up a little bit, but I'll still continue to run, check in on Monday to see how things are going to be a little different!

What did I listen to? As stated above, nothing other than the raindrops and my footsteps along the road.

Verse of the Day: Matthew 26:26-30, "As they were eating, Jesus took the bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take and eat it; this is My body.' Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them and said, 'Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood the covenant; it is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins. But I tell you, from this moment I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it in a new way in My Father's kingdom with you." After singing psalms, they went our to the Mount of Olives."

Thank you for checking in once again today, I know sometimes these posts can sound the same, but it means a lot to me that you check in and see how the progress is going and see how maybe today was different from the last. I continue to become a better more efficient runner and I love tracking my progress. Until tomorrow...

A Mile a Day - Day 25

Day 25

Today's run was definitely a fun one, was able to run with Katie and her sister Audrey down here in the Outer Banks. We woke up around 6ish and finally started our run around 6:15, it was about to rain so we had to fly through our run today, which was a blast. It's always so much fun running with other people and also running through a new place you aren't sure how the conditions are going to be. I love being able to go around and try different places and run all over. That's what I think the coolest thing has been, just waking up and starting my day off with a run, especially when the weather may be bad the rest of the day (like it is currently as I write this). I've learned a lot about myself the past 25 days and I am excited to continue this journey!

What did I listen to?  WWE music on iTunes

Verse of the Day: Matthew‬ ‭25:29‬ ‭NIV “For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
Today's run is in the books and I'll be down here one more day running for Day 26. Thanks for checking in and we'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 24

Day 24

Day 24 started super early in the morning when my alarm went off at 5:20am. I woke up and drove to Oak Grove Lake and ran with one of my former coaches Mr. Nieter. It was a lot of fun to be able to catch up with someone who really has had a huge impact on my life over the past 15+ years. It's sort of funny that he was in charge of running club back when I was in middle school and here I am on Day 24 of running a mile a day and he's running with me. I've said it before but it has been so nice to have people to run with the past couple days, and I really want to continue to do that, so if you are out there reading this, and you want to run a mile with me one of these mornings please let me know! We can meet up at Oak Grove Lake or if you know another good place to run (that's not a track) I'm down for that as well. I felt great today, I think I felt that I had to run a little quicker since Mr. Nieter is a very good runner and a mile for him is like nothing. But overall from start to finish it was awesome, I encourage also anyone who is running, to find someone to run with and not listen to music. Have a conversation with the other person, it actually makes the time go by quicker and the mile flies by.

What did I listen to? Nothing but good conversation with Mr. Nieter

Verse of the Day: Matthew 24:32, "'Now learn from this parable from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.'"

I know there have been people who have asked to run with me and I've turned them down, but I think I wanted to see how things would go first by myself before getting other people involved. But I want to expand my reach and would love for someone else to run with me each day! Let me know and I cannot wait to hear from all of you!

A Mile a Day - Day 23

Day 23

What a time the past 24 hours have been, yesterday after my run, I spent the day with Katie and we headed up to Richmond to watch WWE Smackdown LIVE at the Richmond Coliseum. It was one of the best times I've ever had at any event and for it be on TV and sitting second row, was even better. (Huge shoutout to Joshy G and Becky Lynch). Fast forward to this mornings run and I ran with Katie around her neighborhood and it was so much fun to change up the scenery a little bit. Was able to run around ghent and the weather was absolutely beautiful for a Day 23 run. As you will read in today's verse of the day, it's easy to be humbled when you run the same distance, the same pace, the same everything over and over. Some runs feel better than others, and some just feel like you never have run a day in your life. Today was definitely a great run, things came together and I loved being able to run with Katie again.

What did I listen to? WWE Pandora Radio Station (Only appropriate after last night)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 23:11-12, "' The greatest among you will be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.'"

Tomorrow I'll be running at Oak Grove park with Mr. Nieter, it's going to be a fun mile tomorrow and I'll make sure to keep you updated! Check back in tomorrow to see how it went, he's fast and loves to run, this could be interesting!

A Mile a Day - Day 22

Day 22

You would think that by Day 22 I would have gotten the hang of this whole running thing. I've logged 22 miles so far and have tried to make it as smooth of a run as possible each time. I don't know if I need some encouragement or if I need more motivation, but the first half of my run felt like the worst half mile I've ever run. I felt slow and didn't really feel like I went out the way I should have gone out. If you are thinking of doing this mile a day thing, try and find someone to run with, because the day I ran with Katie was one of the best runs I've had so far because someone was there who can keep my pace steady through the whole entire run. It was about a quarter mile in when I almost stopped walked back and said screw day 22, but I kept my head down and kept plugging along. I hope tomorrow is better, because I really don't want many more days like today.

What did I listen to? Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Pandora

Verse of the Day: Matthew 22:37-40, "He said to him, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heard, with all your soul, and with all your mind. The is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets depend on these two commandments.'"

Day 22 didn't really go as well as I would have liked it to, but it's done and now I can focus on the rest of the day! Thanks for following along, I hope this blog gives at least one person out there some inspiration and motivation to keep plugging along no matter how things may feel. We'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 21

Day 21

Today's run was probably the coolest so far, we had a huge storm here in Chesapeake last night that dropped the temperature considerably and it was so much nicer than running yesterday. I still think it is so difficult to run by yourself and establish a decent pace when you don't really know how fast or how slow to run. But I felt like I went out a little too quickly but was able to settle into a pace after a quarter mile or so then at the end of the mile I was able to speed things up a little. I've learned a lot over the past couple weeks and just looking to continue, I'm excited to see what happens and I'd be interested in seeing what happens if I try and run a little longer than a mile, which I think I may do a little later this week, you'll have to stay tuned to find out. But overall, today's run was a success and it was a great way to start the day just like any other day!

What did I listen to? Thunderstruck Radio Pandora

Verse of the Day: Matthew 21:42, "Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read int he Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This came from the Lord and is wonderful in out eyes? Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its fruit.'"

Day 21 is in the books, can you believe its been three weeks already! I've lost another 4.4 lbs this week bringing my total to 9.6lbs overall. Things are looking great and I'm feeling better than ever! Thank you all for following along and I will talk to you all again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 20

Day 20

If I learned any lesson from today's run it's this: Running at 8am is a lot hotter and a lot harder than running at 6am. But after an incredible long day yesterday being up since 5 o'clock in the morning to run on the treadmill before my event, and then driving back 6 hours from Charlotte, it was good to get back into the swing of things running on the road. I was tired, I was a little sore from being on my feet all day yesterday, but overall it felt good to knock it out early. I honestly thought to myself if I don't get this mile done at this very moment, I'm not going to feel motivated enough to do it either later in the morning or after I get off work later this afternoon. So I had to do it right after I woke up. I started out probably a little too fast, but I think it was just because I was ready to get out of the heat and humidity that was starting to rise early in the morning. I'm glad it's over with and its crazy that I only have a week and a half left of this challenge. I've run 20 miles over the past 20 days and I'm still not in love with running, but it's not as bad as it was on Day 1, so it's been a good time so far.

What did I listen to? Queen Pandora Radio

Verse of the Day: Today's verse comes from Matthew 20:16, and is the last verse of "The Parable of the Vineyard Workers" it reads, "'So the last will be first, and the first last.'"

Thank you all for checking in for Day 20, I'll be announcing what I'm going to do next sometime this week, so make sure you stay tuned for all that. Have a great Sunday and we'll talk again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 19

Day 19

Man, what a day this mornings run was. So I'm on the road for an event in Charlotte and I'm staying at a hotel, but unfortunately there is no real "road area" around to go for a run around the hotel. So I was stuck on a treadmill, now this is the first time I've been on a treadmill during this challenge, and running on a treadmill is so much more difficult. So I had to go off the pace set by the treadmill speed. So I did some Run/Walk intervals since it was something different. So I went with the 10:00/ mile pace for 2.5 minutes (essentially a 400m) then walk 2.5 minutes. Repeat that one time. Then I increased the speed to have a 9:18 mile pace, so I did that for 2.5 minutes and rested 2.5 minutes, and repeated that. I know, what I just wrote is extremely confusing and it took me a while to figure out how I was going to write that out, but hopefully you get the idea. I probably ran over a mile today, but the concept still remained the same, I wanted to get in a mile at a decent pace, and that is exactly what I did.

What did I listen to? Thunderstruck Radio on Pandora. (Haven't found a better one, open for suggestions)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 19:23,24 "Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'I assure you: It will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven! Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God.'"

Today was a good day. A different type of run, but different is good. I had to go outside my comfort zone to finish today's run and that's what I did. Thanks for checking in and we'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 18

Day 18

Day 18 was such a great run. I wasn't sure how it was going to be after a big dinner last night and having the most amazing day with Katie celebrating our 2 year anniversary. We went and saw this really cool art exhibit at the Chrysler Art Museum then we went on a Dinner Dance cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk last night. So she decided to come and run Day 18 with me. It was so nice to have someone to run with and just pace with throughout the whole mile. You never realize how nice it is to run with someone until you actually do it, and to be able to run with someone I love is even better. The weather actually started out really cool and sort of a nice breeze outside, then that cool whether shifted into hot and humid once we got to the later parts of the run. It was such a nice delight to be able to run with Katie. Today's run was an amazing run, and it had all to do with the amazing girl I ran with.

What did I listen to? Thunderstruck Radio on Pandora (It's just so great)

Verse of the Day:  Today's verse is actually from my devo and it's one of my favorite verses. Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

It was a great way to start the weekend. I'm heading to Charlotte for Team SuperFit Charlotte, but don't worry, I'll still be running early in the morning. But the blog post may not happen until later in the evening, or I may do a video blog post tomorrow to change things up. Thank you for checking in, and hopefully tomorrow goes well, that run will be on treadmill. Talk to you tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 17

Day 17

Before I write about today's run I have to dedicate this blog post, and really every blog post that I do to my incredible girlfriend Katie. Two year ago I asked her if she would be my girlfriend and she said yes. It has been the most amazing past two years of my life and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else right by my side the entire way. I love you Katie!

Today's Run
You know what I love about running day after day? The fact that you could have one really bad day (just like yesterday) but then the next day you have a chance to erase whatever bad happened and start a new day with a new run. And that is exactly what I did, I woke up and started my music and the rest is history. I felt better, I felt faster, I felt like I kept a decent pace throughout the entire run. It was super cool outside this morning which obviously changed to it being humid about halfway through the run. As much as I love to sleep and love getting my sleep in, it has been a blast waking up at 6am to go for a run. It's the best way to start the day especially if you have a lot going on, and you beat the heat. Which in the summer is crucial. Today I can honestly say it was my best run yet, My mind was in it, my body was in it, and I felt amazing!

What did I listen to? Thunderstruck Radio on Pandora (So good)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 17:20, "'Because of your little faith,' He told them. 'For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'"

Today was great, and tomorrow is going to be great because after I run I'll be on the road to Charlotte for Team SuperFit Charlotte! Thank you for checking in, we'll do it again tomorrow! Also, I need some ideas for another pose to do in these post run pictures...

A Mile a Day - Day 16

Day 16

Between all the dog walkers who wanted to take up the entire street, to the people who didn't want to move out of the way when I was running on the sidewalk, today was by far the worst I've ever felt during the past 16 runs. I woke up and right away my body was telling me not to run, my back was sore and I really just didn't feel well. But I reminded myself of what I said yesterday, if the you can convince the mind to do something, the body won't be too far behind. So I started my run and right away ran into people who didn't have the decency to clear a little lane for me in the road and that got the run started off very poorly mentally. My music, was the complete opposite of yesterday, I could not find a good song to listen to while I ran, I don't think I listened to an entire song the whole run, which was annoying in itself. My body was aching, my mind wasn't focused, I went out too hard and couldn't finish how I wanted to. But all in all, the run is over and tomorrow is a new day. I have a feeling Day 17 is going to be much better.

What did I listen to? What didn't I listen to this morning, started with Country Pandora then skipped around a lot.

Verse of the Day: Matthew 16:24-27, "Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it. What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will reward each according to what he has done.'"

While day 16 may not have been a good one, It's over with and that now 16 miles completed in the past 16 days. I'm proud of myself, I'm over halfway to my goal of running everyday for a month. What will I do after a month? I guess you'll have to keep coming back to find out. Let's do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 15

Day 15

Today was a race, and when I say that I mean I was racing the street lights, I woke up at 5:30 this morning to run, never have I ever woken up that early to run before and here I was working on 5 hours of sleep about to run my 15th mile in as many days. I felt great, the music I was listening was on point this morning and I was just plugging along singing the songs and trying to stay at a decent pace. I've learned a lot about myself and about how much I can push myself at certain points of my run, and today was no different I feel like I normally go out so hard and after a quarter of a mile I'm already exhausted, but I started slower today so I could finish faster at the end. It was a very good (yet humid) morning to run. But it was one of my better runs, I'm starting to kind of like waking up early and starting my day off with a run. Who would have ever thought?

What did I listen to? Spice Girls Pandora Radio (I know you're judging right now, but that station didn't play a bad song the entire time.)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 15:15-18, "Peter said, 'Explain the parable to us.' 'Are you still so dull?' Jesus asked them. 'Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out a person's mouth come from the heart and these defile them..."

This morning was a great day, and I'm excited to wake up and actually run tomorrow. Hopefully the weather cooperates and isn't too bad in the coming days. Thanks for checking in, lets do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 14

Day 14

Another day started as just your ordinary Monday, my alarm went off, I didn't want to wake up to go run, so I got up and I ran. Today was honestly the best run I've had so far in the past two weeks. I felt great from the beginning and tried to stay at a decent pace throughout the rest of the run. I've been learning that a lot of a mile run, as is a lot in general with life is mostly mental. You can go out and run a mile no problem physically, but sometimes mentally you just don't want to do anything, whether it's run a mile or even wake up in the morning. You have to tell yourself before you get started that no matter what may get in your way, you will start that task, and in my case the mile run. I've had a lot of people ask me what am I going to do after the 30 days of running a mile is over, am I going to increase the distance or keep it the same? I honestly don't know, I didn't start this run a mile a day challenge to train for a half marathon or even a 5k. I am doing it because I wanted to lose weight (I'm down 5.2lbs so far in the last week), and I wanted to see if I could actually run consecutive days for a long time. I can promise you this though, I WILL NOT be stopping after 30 days. So don't worry, these blog posts you love reading aren't going anywhere anytime soon 😉

What did I listen to? Volbeat "A Warriors Call" on repeat

Verse of the Day: Matthew 14:17-21, "'But we only have five loaves and two fish here,' they said to Him. 'Bring them here to Me,' He said. Then He commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the heaven, He blessed them. He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. Everyone ate and was filled. Then they picked up 12 baskets full of leftover pieces! Now those who ate were about 5,000 men, besides women and children."

Today was my best run yet, and I think I'm up for doing it again tomorrow! I hope you'll join me either running a mile a day, or continue to follow along here with my blog. Thanks everyone!

A Mile a Day - Day 13

Day 13

I started today's run not wanting to wake up and go. But I have to tell you, once I got up and started running I felt great! It was still really humid this morning, but I don't think that is going to change anytime soon so I'm going to get used to it. Anyway, you would think by Day 13 I would have gotten into a rhythm with my runs and learned how to go out and run the "perfect mile", well spoiler alert that hasn't happened yet and I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. Which is fine by me, even though one of these days I'm going to go out there and run from start to finish and feel better than ever. I woke up around 6ish since I wanted to get the run in before I went to church, and I'm glad I decided to do it early in the morning. Over the last 13 days, I've run in the morning, afternoon and evening, and I would have to say that the morning bright and early is the best time to run, it's "cooler" and it is definitely a great way to start your day.

What did I listen to? Volbeat - A Warrior's Call and Heaven nor Hell (Thanks Brandon for the suggestion)

Verse of the Day - Matthew 13: 31-32, "He presented another parable to them:'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It's the smallest of all the seeds, but when grown, it's taller than the vegetables and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.'"

Day 13 was a great day to run and has been a great day so far overall. Thanks for stopping by and we'll do this again tomorrow! If you want to give me some suggestions on what to listen to, COMMENT BELOW!

A Mile a Day - Day 12

Day 12

Today was a lot cooler outside since it stormed pretty violently last night. But that made the beginning of the run great, but the second half of the run extremely humid. I went out and hoped the whole run was going to cooperate but, right as I passed the halfway mark it was extremely tough to just keep plugging on. You may ask (or you may not) what goes through my mind during these runs, what is the process of when I run or how fast I run, or even what kind of motivates me to run everyday. I think some people get in habits from time to time and most of the time, people break those habits after a certain amount of time. Like it said in my very first post, I hate running. And that still hasn't changed, but I'm getting used to waking up and making it apart of my day whether its early in the morning, or another time during the day. I may not enjoy running too much, but I'm not going to stop doing it because it's uncomfortable. If something makes you uncomfortable you should do it more often to become more comfortable in that skill or that certain aspect. And that is what I'm doing by running a mile a day.

What did I listen to? Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Pandora Station

Verse of the Day: Matthew 12:33, "'Either make the tree good and its fruits good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.'"

Today was a good run, and I'm excited to continue to run each day and always update all of you daily. Continue to check in and I'll continue to update you! Thanks again for checking in and we'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 11

Day 11

What a day it was for a run, I decided to sleep in a little bit and go for my run around 7:30am. That may have been a little too late. I think this run was more difficult than the past ten runs because of the turnaround from yesterdays run. I ran last night around 8:30 so I think my body wasn't used getting up early right after I ran when I did last night. But you know what, I went out and got the run completed. I've wondered to myself why in the world did I start this challenge during the hottest time of the year, the answer is pretty simple, because if I can get through these days, then I can get through any days. Think about that, if you can go out and run a mile a day when it feels like 100 degrees outside, then in the fall, winter and summer months its going to feel like a breeze. I love doing this challenge since that's exactly what it is, a challenge. I'm not planning on giving up anytime soon on this, and I hope you won't give up on reading these blog posts either.

What did I listen to? Thumbprint Radio on Pandora (Just the songs I've given the thumbs up to recently)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 11:28, "'Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.'"

Day 11 was by far the toughest run yet, but I'll learn from it, and attack the rest of my runs. Keep hydrated everyone, it's hot out there! Talk to you all tomorrow!

A Mile A Day - Day 10

Day 10

It's 9 o'clock in the evening, feels like its still 90 degrees outside and I just finished my mile. I spent the day with Katie down in the Outer Banks as we celebrated our anniversary a week early since our schedules allowed us to do that today. I was nervous about going and running at night after a long productive day at the beach, but it had to be done. I've got hundreds of people (I'm talking about YOU) who read this each and every day, and what good would I be if I didn't do what I've promised I'm going to do each day. So I went and ran my mile, thats mile number 10 over the last 10 days. It was hot, it was humid but it's done. That's really all I have to say about today, the run felt good, and I got a very good sweat out of it.

What did I listen to? Busted Open on Sirius XM 93 (Wrestling Radio Show)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 10: 32,33, "'Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven.'"

Thats a wrap for Day 10, Hope you've enjoyed the journey so far. If you want to help me raise some money for a new pair of running shoes, theres a link on the right of the screen you can donate to the fund. Thanks everyone! We'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day - Day 9

Day Nine

The start to the last couple of days in terms of running have been absolutely rough. As you read yesterday I didn't want to get up and run, and this morning I had a pounding headache which tells me my body didn't want me to get up. But I woke up and ran anyway, the first quarter mile felt really bad, my headache wasn't going away and I almost said forget it, I'll run later. But as I continued to run I felt better and felt more confident throughout the whole thing. You'd be surprised how many thoughts can go on through your head in just a mile run. Another thought that popped into my brain while I was running is that this is my 9th mile in the same amount of days. I seriously cannot remember the last time I ran 9 miles in a month let alone 9 days. Overall I'm still feeling good, there are parts of my body that are starting to hurt a little bit, but I know that goes with the territory. Nine Miles down, a lot more to go.

What Did I listen to? 24 Hour Fitness Workout Mix Pandora Station

Verse of the Day: Matthew 9:12,13 "But when He heard this, He said, 'Those who are well don't need a doctor, but the sick do. Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners.'"

A Mile a Day - Day 8

Day Eight

Today was probably the first day that I woke up and knew I had to run, but didn't really want to run. I was laying in bed exhausted, having worked until midnight last night it was extremely difficult to wake up early and run. But once I woke up and got outside and started running, all that went away. I found myself feeling great and knew it was going to be a good mile today. It was very humid outside despite the temperature only being 73, but it sort of helped with the getting loose quicker and setting a great pace. I believed I timed out my run at close to 9:30, which was my best run so far over the last eight days. I love being able to wake up and go for a run around my neighborhood, but I think I may branch out in the next few days and go somewhere else and run, just to change things up a little bit. I started this challenge as a way to lose some weight and start running more and I believe it's starting to work. Anyway, day eight is in the books and thats a total of 8 miles run so far! Feeling great and my body is starting to get used to these runs.

What did I listen to today? Queen Pandora Radio (One of my favorite stations)

Verse of the Day- Matthew 8:26, "But He said to them,'Why are you fearful, you of little faith?' Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm.

I'm starting to get used to this running thing, as many of you know, I've been selected to be an emcee for the USA Functional Fitness National Championships in September, I gotta make sure I'm in great shape leading into those. If you have recipes you would like to share, I would love to hear them. Comment below and continue to stay tuned each day to see how I'm doing.

Thanks for checking in, we'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day: Day 7

Day Seven

It's pretty crazy that I've been doing this for a week already. I just finished up my 7th run and overall it felt good. A couple times so far during this challenge I've thought to myself if I should keep track of my times, so I can see if I'm getting better. But then today, when I was out for my run I thought, that would take away from the "enjoyment" of what I'm doing. I'm not running a mile a day to get faster at my mile. I'm doing it because maybe over the coming weeks I can continue running a mile a day. I do my best to see about what my time is each run and normally I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made so far. I can't remember the last time I ran 7 miles in a week, and thats what this is all about. Hopefully there will be no end and I can continue to run and maybe one of these days, I won't hate running so much. You'll have to keep checking in to find out if that happens. 😉

What did I listen to today: Jock Jams Pandora Station

Verse of the Day: Matthew 7:7-8, "'Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.'"

Thanks again for checking in everyone, ONE WEEK DOWN a lot more to go! We'll talk to you tomorrow!

A Mile a Day: Day 6

Day Six

Just finished my 6th run in the last six day and man I felt good. The weather wasn't too humid, it was still extremely hot outside, but I think not having that humidity made all the difference. I felt much better than I did when I started out this whole challenge last Tuesday and it really has been great to be able to see the progress I've made so far just within the first week. I think that's what the coolest thing with running a mile a day, is that everyday you run you learn something that can help you get better for the next day. Whether it be a breathing technique, or how you pace things out, or just what time of day you want to get your run in. But the most important thing is that you go out and do it, no matter what. If you put your mind to it, YOU can do it. Because remember what I said back on Day 3, "I HATE RUNNING, but I can run a mile!"

What did I listen to? Cheap Heat Wrestling Podcast

Verse of the Day: Matthew 6:21, "'For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.'" (I also recommend reading Matthew 6:25-34, one of my favorite passages of scripture.)

Another run is in the books, thanks for checking in and we'll do it again tomorrow!

A Mile a Day: Day 5

Day Five

Did sort of the same thing I did yesterday, just didn't wake up as early. Went for my run about 7am, and I walked outside and it felt beautiful. I would have to say today's conditions were the best I've had since I started running on Tuesday. I have been trying to work on my breathing while I run (with Tips from Mr. Nieter) and today was better just in the way I felt. Still working on finding a decent steady pace instead of going out too fast and then really having nothing left in the tank towards the end. I know its only a mile but, you still never want to go out too quickly. Overall Day 5 was my best run yet. I can't believe I've already run 5 miles total in just 5 days, and there are many more to come. A mile may not seem like much but it adds up over time.

Pandora Station: Queen Radio

Verse of the Day: Matthew 5:14-16, "'You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.'"

Thanks for checking in, and we'll do it again tomorrow! Any suggestions of a Pandora station I should listen to? Comment below!

A Mile a Day: Day 4

Day Four

So I decided to do something different today and woke up at 6am to run. I figured if I wake up early it won't be as hot, and it won't be as hard to run a mile. Well I was wrong, it may not have been as hot as the past three days but it was more humid than ever which made the mile very tough. But this mile was easier than the last three. I felt more comfortable running this one for some reason, even though I'm still trying to reteach myself how to breathe during runs. That is definitely the biggest thing for me because I can go out and run a mile, but if I don't know how to breathe correctly during that mile, it could make all the difference. But Day 4 is done, and a total of 4 miles for the week has been completed. That's probably more miles than I've run in one week in a long time!

Pandora Station: Needtobreathe Radio (Came across a great song, Chain Breaker by Zach Williams)

Verse of the Day: Matthew 4:4 "But He answered, 'It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

Thank you all for checking in today, Talk to you all tomorrow!

A Mile A Day: Day 3

So on our nations birthday a few days ago, I decided to challenge myself. The challenge was to run a mile every day for a month. The main question I asked was, "why in the world would I want to run a mile every single day for a month, I hate running?" In that very statement, I answered my own question: I HATE RUNNING. But even though I hate running, I can run a mile. So this blog is going to not only be an accountability tool for myself, but also a way for me to hopefully encourage anyone out there who may stumble across these posts.

I've tried to figure out what I'm going to include in this blog daily, but I think that would take away from the spontaneity of the blog post. But 3 three things will remain constant:

1. A recap of the day's run and how I felt. (My hope is that I will see progress along the way)

2. The Pandora Station or songs listened to during my run. (Because who doesn't love music)

3. A verse from the Bible. (I've also decided on July 4th to start reading a chapter a day in the Bible with my girlfriend Katie starting with the New Testament and I want to be able to use this blog as a way for me to post one verse I thought stood out to me throughout my daily readings)

My posts won't be this long normally, but since it's the first I figured I would set a foundation for what my hopes of this blog becoming. So here are the 3 things I promised I would have in each post. Enjoy!

Day Three

There has been a common goal the last three days when I've run each of my miles, HOT. It has easily been over 90 degrees each day that I have run so today was no different. I have run the same loop around my neighborhood the past three days, really just to get into a routine of running and to get my body used to running multiple days in a row. (I'm going to be doing this for at least 31 days straight, so I gotta get used to it) I was pleasantly surprised how smooth the run went even though I was sore right before I started and sat in an hour and a half of traffic before the run as well. But overall, it was a hot one and I don't expect things to cool down anytime soon. Day THREE is in the Books, and I'm still smiling.

Pandora Station: Celtic Music Station

Daily Verse: Matthew 3:16-17 "After Jesus was baptized, He went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on Him. And there came a voice from heaven: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!"

Thanks for stopping by, I'll talk to y'all tomorrow!
